Dear Families

On Saturday, June 14, Gerri Simpson and I, along with 230 parishioners, clergy, educators and lay people attended the Catholic Diocese of Cairns Plenary Consultation. A Bishop Joe initiative, the event invited attendees to consult and provide feedback that will assist to shape the future direction of a Church that responds to the needs of its local community. 

Throughout the day, the groups engaged in two Spiritual Conversations, which culminated in reflecting and discussing:

How can we grow as a Church where everyone's gifts are valued, leaders are well formed and accountable, and plans for the future are made together and acted upon?

The feedback provided on the day will be analysed and discussed by a 56-member Diocesan Synod Group, with the results being shared with those who attended on the 14th in May 2026.

The Mother of Good Counsel Church, and North Cairns Parish is unique to its members (wider community and school community). For the purpose of serving the Mother of Good Counsel Church and the North Cairns Parish, parents are asked to answer these questions to help our church better meet the needs of our community.
